James Richard Klewicki, age 86, of East Lansing, Michigan, passed away peacefully after a long battle with heart disease on October 23, 2025.
Jim was born in Muncie, Indiana, on October 13, 1939, and moved to East Lansing as a child, where he spent the rest of his life. A proud Spartan through and through, he was a lifelong fan of Michigan State University athletics, especially football and basketball. He was also a devoted fan of the Detroit Lions, a lifelong passion inspired by his father, who played for the 1935 World Champion team.
Jim graduated from East Lansing High School, where he met the love of his life, Susan Montgomery. Together they shared more than five decades of marriage, raising four children, and building a life filled with love, laughter, and enduring friendship. Jim had the remarkable ability to make friends instantly, and as a result, he was loved by so many. His kindness, humor, and genuine nature made everyone feel welcome in his presence.
His favorite pastime was golf, both playing and watching. He played the game throughout his life and treasured every round spent with friends. To him, golf was more than just a sport; it was one of his greatest joys. He will be remembered for his sharp wit, unwavering loyalty, and quiet strength. Even through years of health challenges, Jim faced each day with courage and grace, never losing his sense of humor or his passion for the people he loved.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susan, and their son, Matthew.
He is survived by his son, Chris Klewicki and his wife Melissa; his daughters, Jamie Heenie and her husband John, and Missy Piccirillo; and his beloved grandchildren, Ingrid, Claire, Nicole, Jacob, and Sean, who brought him endless joy.
His family takes comfort in knowing he is reunited with Susan and Matthew. A service celebrating his life will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church in East Lansing at a later date.
