Richard Kardian

July 15, 1946 — June 3, 2024

Richard Frank Kardian, known warmly to many as Rich, took his final flight on June 3, 2024. Born on July 15, 1946, in Muskegon, MI, he spent his life soaring through the skies as a commercial pilot, flight instructor, and a hobbyist. He enjoyed flying real and model airplanes right alongside his son, Rolly. They spent many unforgettable years hosting and camping at model airplanes shows, creating lifelong memories around the country. His love for flight was only surpassed by his love for his family, friends, and his beloved kitties, Big Boy and Buddy Boy. Richard was a compassionate soul with a witty sense of humor that could light up any room. He was an unwaveringly loyal friend, a supportive father, and a doting grandfather. He lived life with a sense of curiosity and adventure that took him around the world, giving him a treasure trove of tales that he loved to share. From his birthplace in Muskegon to his final residence in Holland, and even to his time spent in South East Asia, Kansas City, Germany, and many other places. Richard's journey through life was as expansive and intriguing as the skies he so loved to traverse. As Saint Augustine once said, "The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page." Richard has read many pages, and he made sure to recount each one with humor, detail, and warmth. Survived by his son, Rolland and Tanja Kardian and daughter, Kristi Kardian; his half- brother, Rod Davis; and his grandchildren, Alisha Kardian, Vanessa & Kevin Staggs, Madison Kardian, and Conner Kardian. Richard leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a passion for life that won't be forgotten. Preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Alice Kardian; and his half-brother, Roger Davis. We are comforted to know he is reunited with his loved ones, likely sharing new stories and soaring beyond the stars. As Maya Angelou eloquently put it, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Richard, with his big heart, his funny and loyal nature, and his witty charm, has left an imprint on our hearts that will never be forgotten.
