Richard Jensen

February 5, 1939 — April 16, 2024

Richard Gary "Dick" Jensen, age 85, of Stanton, Michigan, formerly of Chicago, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at home under the loving care of his family and Corewell Health Hospice. The son of Leo Adolph & Margaret Frances (Hedberg) Jensen, he was born on February 5, 1939 in Chicago. On May 7, 1960, in Chicago, he married Nancy Ellen (Durnell) Jensen and together they raised four children and enjoyed 58 years of marriage until Nancy passed away on November 8, 2018. Dick worked in the telecommunications industry as an installer first for Michigan Bell Telephone Company, and later for 5/3 Bank (formerly Old Kent Bank & Trust). Dick was friendly, happy, ready to help anyone and quick with a joke. He loved bowling and participated in weekly leagues for 50 years. He added golf to his activities after retirement and got his whole family golfing with him. Dick always looked forward to spending a month in Florida every winter with his wife Nancy to escape some of the Michigan winter. He usually got some of the family to join them to visit Disney World or Universal Studios. He was always up for fun adventures with the family. He loved television, especially old movies, action movies and got special enjoyment from corny horror movies from the 1950s. During the NFL season, watching all the games took precedence over anything else. Any Chicago Bears game reigned supreme. Dick's main joy was any time he and Nancy could gather at their home with their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and any other family and friends to eat and laugh, especially at the holidays. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nancy Jensen; his brothers, Leo Jensen and Charles Jensen. Surviving are his children, Michelle Jensen-Hower & Russell Hower of Jenison, James Jensen of Chicago, Illinois, Krista Jensen & Stu Carpenter of Greenville, and Keith & Heather Jensen of Cedar Springs; eight grandchildren, Jeremy & Carla Hower of Norton Shores, Chelsea Hower (Jason Bouska) of Plymouth Massachusetts, Mitchell & Ashley Hower of Holland, Sadie Carpenter of Greenville, Sophie & Harrison Matamoros of Greenville, Lena Jensen (Jackson Mancieri) of Chicago, Illinois, Emily & Bill Wei of Chicago, Illinois, Margaret Jensen of Greenville; great grandchildren; Hayden, Christian, and Sidney Hower of Norton Shores, Trenton Hower of Jenison, Elizabeth Hower of Holland, Nancy and Leo Bouska of Plymouth, Massachusetts, Cameron Carpenter of Greenville, and twin great grandsons on the way; sister-in-law Linda Jensen of Fennville, Michigan, two brothers-in-law, John Durnell & Loretta Masterson of Oak Lawn, Illinois, and William & Gladys Durnell of Citrus Springs, Florida; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
