Richard Genette

Mr. Richard C. Genette, age 72, of Greenville, passed away Aug. 18, 2009 at Spectrum Health-United Hospital, Greenville. The son of Eldridge & Dorothy (Enderich) Genette, he was born on Aug. 12, 1937 in Detroit. For most of his life, Richard worked in overhead garage door sales and service, and after moving to Greenville became known as the areas garage door opener expert. An avid fisherman, he also enjoyed hunting, shooting pool, and playing cards. In death, Richard gave the gift of sight by donating his corneas. He was preceded in death by his father, Eldridge Genette. Surviving are his mother and step-father, Dorothy & Lewis Dye of Westland; his longtime companion, Bettilyn Kass of Greenville; four brothers and sisters, Gerald & Anne Genette of Livonia, Patricia Story of Westland, Carole & Ron Boote of California, and Barbara & Paul Grzebik of Farmington Hills; Bettilyns children, Stephen H. Kass of Greenville, Philip Lynn & Helen Kass of Taylor, and Jamie & Lisa Kass of Redford; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at St. Theodore Catholic Church, 8200 N. Wayne Road, Westland, where Richard will lay in state at the church beginning at 11:30 a.m. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 4-5 p.m. at the Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 511 S.
