Richard Dann

Richard E. Dann, Sr., age 79, of Greenville, passed away Friday, October 15, 2010 in the emergency room at Spectrum Health-United Hospital, Greenville. The son of Ivan & Hilda (Johnson) Dann, he was born on Feb. 7, 1931 in Greenville. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Richard served in occupied Germany following World War II. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and mushrooming and retired from the former Gibson Refrigerator Company. A man of deep Christian faith, he was a long-time member of the Greenville Bible Methodist Church and delighted in playing his guitar and singing. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sons, Robert Bobbie Dann in 1960, Dennis R. Dann in 2002, and Richard E. Dann, Jr. in 2004; four sisters, Esther M. Rhoads, Ruth Brandow, Hazel Marie Dann, and Dorothy Heald; and one brother, John Dann. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela & Terry Bailey of Gowen; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles & Olga Dann of Mancelona; his childrens mother, Lorretta Merritt of Greenville; nine grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and many, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation is Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the Christiansen Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The Rev. Dennis Johnson will officiate and burial, with military honors, will follow at Spencer Mills Cemetery near Gowen. Envelopes for memorial contributions to the Greenville Bible Methodist Church will be available at the funeral home.
