Richard Alexander

Mr. Richard L. Dick Alexander, age 78, of Sidney, passed away Wednesday morning, August 6, 2008 at Helen Newberry Joy Hospital in Newberry while vacationing with family in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The son of James D. & Vera (Dulyea) Alexander, he was born on Aug. 15, 1929 and grew up in the Sheridan area. A graduate of Sheridan Agricultural High School, he began working at Federal Mogul in Greenville on May 9, 1950 and retired after 41 years of service on Sept. 1, 1991. Dick had served as Sidney Township Supervisor, enjoyed playing euchre, as well as his many trips to the U.P. For many years, along with his brother Bob, he had also farmed. He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Ann (Smalley) Alexander in 1960, and Irene (Rigdon) Alexander in 1999; a daughter, Judy Ann Alexander in 2005; a son, Richard Thomas Alexander in 2006; three sisters, Marilyn Haling, Phyllis Vitale, and Janice Swainston; four brothers, James, Donald, Robert, and Gordon Alexander. Surviving are a daughter, Cathy (Bill) Lynn of Stanton; two sons, Terry Alexander of San Diego, California, and Tom and Michelle Alexander of Gowen; a daughter-in-law, Theresa Alexander of White Cloud; nine grandchildren, Dawn (Frank) Strecker, Michelle Alexander, Travis Alexander, Danielle Alexander, Jason (Christina) Lynn, Jill Lynn, Ryan Alexander, Brittney Alexander, and Kayla Alexander; and nine great grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters, Beverly Stoneham of Sheridan, Joann (Jerry) Helmer of Crystal, Barbara (Doug) Claflin of Greenville, Carole (John) Campbell of Parma; siblings-in-law, Bonnie Randall of Sheridan, Ella Alexander of Sheridan, Phillip Vitale of Grand Rapids, Herschel Hailing of Sidney, Barbara Rios of Stanton, and Gary Swainston of Sheridan; and many, many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. Aug. 11, 2008 from the Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville. Burial will follow in Sidney Township Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home, where envelopes for memorial contributions to the charity of ones choice are available.
