Reginald "Reggie" Martine III

April 16, 1950 — July 30, 2025

Branch, Michigan

Reginald “Reggie” Martine III, age 75, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2025, at Newaygo County Compassion Home, with his daughter, Amber, at his side.

Born on April 16, 1950, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Reggie was the son of Jay Barklow Martine Sr. and Marguerite Idella (Kuntz) Martine. He grew up in Michigan and graduated from Galien High School. Over the years, he made his home in several places, including many cherished years as a resident of Sister Lakes, and most recently in Branch, Michigan.

Reggie was the proud owner and operator of Lakeview Inn, a local favorite that he successfully ran before retiring. Known for his warmth, sense of humor, and easygoing nature, Reggie built lasting friendships wherever he went. He had a gift for making people feel welcome and valued, both in his business and in his everyday life. He never met a stranger!

Outside of work, Reggie had a deep love for the outdoors, where he enjoyed fishing and hunting. A talented and creative soul, he also found joy in chainsaw carving—crafting mushrooms, fish, bears, and trees with remarkable detail and care.

He is survived by his beloved children: Amber (Mike), Todd, Tony (Barbara), and Tracy (Charlie); his sisters Muriel (John) and Marcia (Larry); special niece, Annie; his grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; his four-legged companion, Maggie, and a wide circle of wonderful friends. He also leaves behind his special friend, Terry, who brought joy to his later years.

Reggie was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Penny Martine; his former wife, Judy Martine; and his brother, Jay Barklow Martine Jr., who gave his life in service during the Vietnam War.

A memorial service to celebrate Reggie's life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Newaygo County Compassion Home, in Reggie's memory. (Donations may be given online by clicking the link or please mail donations to: Newaygo County Compassion Home 20 S. Stewart Avenue, Fremont, MI 49412, please notate his name on any donations).

Reggie will be missed by all but leaves behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and creativity that will live on in the memories of those who loved him.

Special thanks to Newaygo Pace, Fountain View Assisted Living in Grant, Corewell Health Ludington, Harmony Hospice and the lovely ladies at Newaygo County Compassion Home, who took care of him in his final days.
