Rebecca “Becky” Lynn (Chartrand) Henry, born in Lansing, Michigan on January 9, 1956, to Raymond Gertin and Catherine (Smith) Chartrand of Portland, Michigan passed Monday, November 13, 2023.
One of eight siblings growing up in what she described as a fun and loving household, Becky shared stories of unusual pets (at least one raccoon and a fox), days spent rambling around town with sisters, friends, and cousins, and family dinners and holidays that included togetherness. Becky often noted with fondness that even if she didn’t have everything she wanted – she always had everything she needed.
In her childhood Becky developed several friendships that lasted throughout her lifetime and this was just one demonstration of the loyalty she had to those she loved.
The Fall of 1973 saw Becky married to Nickolas J. Henry and so began the 50-year relationship that led to the expansion of her closeknit and dedicated family. Her daughters were Becky’s pride, and her grandchildren were her heart.
Becky’s 32-year career with the State of Michigan served to help support her family; provide her daughters and grandchildren all the Christmas, birthday, and miscellaneous gifts and treats they could possibly want; and gave her a means to gamble, shop, and travel to her heart’s content. She demonstrated that she worked to live, she did not live to work.
Throughout her life Becky was family oriented. She and her sisters were regularly in contact. She was especially close with Cathy – their joyful cackling will ring through the ages. She would joke and tease with her brothers when they were together - in true Chartrand fashion. Becky planned girls’ trips with her daughters and would often cater to her sons-in-laws favorite foods when planning family dinners. She had special relationships with her grandchildren, each one remembering different ways that their grandma interacted with them individually.
Becky was a devoted wife and mother whose love for her family was boundless.
She will be dearly missed by her beloved husband; devoted daughters, Regina (Gil Flores) Henry, Nicole (Jeremy Korting) Henry-Korting, and Rachel (Elijah) Larson; grandchildren, Ian and Tristan Flores and Payton and Gage Larson. She also leaves behind siblings, Tim (Cora) Chartrand, Cathy Shattuck, Shelly (Ted) Chartrand, Mary (Dave) Dothsuk, and Lisa (Terry) Morris; brothers-in-law, Richard (Rose) and Sam Henry, forever lifelong friend, Sue Petrie; special friends, Dawn and Cindy; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Becky was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Ryker Henry Larson; sister, Sandy Platte; brother, Gary (Marlene) Chartrand; nieces, Leann & Lori Platte; nephew and godson, Nathan Shattuck; forever lifelong friend, Cathy Rolfe; and parents-in-law, Clarence “Joe” & June Henry, and Katherine (Last) Trumbull.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at 12:30 pm at the Portland Conservation Club (7345 Lyons Road, Portland, Michigan). Becky’s favorite color was blue, if you are able to wear this color, her family would love to see all shades in memoriam to Becky.
