Raymond Lee Worpel, age 43, of Fenwick, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 4, 2026 in the emergency room of Corewell Health-Greenville Hospital after a brief, but hard-fought, battle with lung cancer.
Raymond, known to friends as Ray and Rainbow or Bobo to his cousins, was born on September 26, 1982 in Greenville, Michigan to proud parents, Laurie Ann Woerpel and Virgil Ray Walker. He graduated from Ionia High School in 2001. Raymond shared a special bond with his mother, and she helped him in numerous aspects of his life. He was a big fan of her cooking and would often request her famous cabbage rolls.
It was rare to see Raymond without a smile on his face. This infectious smile and his kind heart were his trademarks. He was known for his generosity, always ready to lend a helping hand, often putting others before himself. A devoted NFL fan, Raymond typically spent game days in his comfy recliner cheering on his favorite team, the Detroit Lions - GO LIONS! His love for superheroes and anime was well-known to many, with Thor being his favorite.
For nearly 13 years, he was a dedicated employee at Dynamic Wood Products, Inc. in Saranac, where he took great pride in his work and forged many friendships. His closest tie was with his co-worker, Ryan Hart, who shared his love for frisbee golf. They spent countless hours on the course, enjoying the time they spent together.
Raymond was preceded in death by his father, Virgil Ray Walker on November 12, 2025; his stepmother, Michele Walker on August 21, 2022; and three uncles, Bobbie Woerpel, Herbie Woerpel, and John Walker. He is survived by his beloved mother, Laurie Woerpel of Greenville; his maternal grandmother, Charlene Hansen of Belding; his sister, Regina (James) Osborne of Muir; his brother, C.J. Walker of Fenwick; his maternal aunt, Christine Ortiz of Greenville; his significant other, Kelli Walcutt of Fenwick, and her daughters, Emily and Madison. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A celebration of Ray’s life will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, November 8, 2026 at the Greenville Community Center located at 900 E. Kent Road, Greenville, Michigan 48838. Food and beverages will be provided to honor his memory.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to his mother, Laurie, for end-of-life expenses are appreciated. Raymond will forever be remembered for his kind and gentle soul. Always in our hearts - We love you, Bobo!
