Ray E. Weir, age 75, of Canadian Lakes, passed away Sunday, September 15 at Altercare of Big Rapids after a long battle with renal cell cancer. The son of Floyd Edwin & Ruth (Cotterman) Weir, he was born in Columbus, Ohio on October 3, 1943. Ray graduated from North High School in Columbus, Ohio, attended the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, and was always true to the maroon and grey school colors. He came to Michigan in his early twenties and became a tooling engineer for the automotive companies. During his career, he worked for J.E. Wood Company, U.S. Tool and Cutter, and Special Drill. He later was vice-president and partner in Five Star Products in Madison Heights. His last employment was at Apex Broach Company. He enjoyed golfing, boating, and snowmobiling. He always enjoyed a good time. Surviving are his wife of forty-seven years, Sandy; his son, Steve & Mary Weir; his daughter, Kim Vargo & Dewayne Brown; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Janet K. Weir; several nieces, nephews and friends; and his dog and companion, Chico. Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of Ray's life will be held at Port O' Call restaurant at the Algonac Harbour Club on Saturday October 19th from 1 to 5 pm.
