Randall Steven Phillips (Randy) age 59, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, surrounded by family and loved ones.
Randy was born in Lansing, on March 22, 1960, to Harry L. and Nancy (Randall) Phillips. At 3 months of age he moved to Ypsilanti, and at age 9 moved to East Grand Rapids where he graduated from East Grand Rapids High School in 1978. He immediately joined the US Navy, which he honorably served for three years.
Upon discharge, he sold real estate for Westdale Reality. At age 39, he decided he wanted to be a long-distance truck driver, so he went to school in Indiana, and that was a profession he performed and enjoyed the rest of his life.
Randy loved sports-winning many swimming medals, pitching many baseball games and carrying many footballs for the All-State East Grand Rapids football team. He loved skiing at Cannonsburg or his favorite Boyne Mountain, where he won many awards for the Grand Slalom.
Randy was predeceased in 1971 by his Father, Harry L. Phillips whom he loved and missed dearly.
He is survived by his mother, Nancy VandenBerg of Panama City Beach, FL; brother, Andy Phillips of Panama City Beach, FL; sister, Barbara Hooks; two step-sisters, Sue VanEyk and Mary Richmond of Kalamazoo; special niece, Samantha Johnson; many other nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and wonderful cousins; and his longtime companion and soul mate, Angela Roberts.
At his request, there will be no memorial service. His remains will be interred at a later date with a private military service at Deepdale Memorial Gardens in Lansing, near his father and grandparents.
