Preston David Mathews

Preston David Mathews, age 71, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 13, 2026. Preston was born on November 8, 1955 in Petoskey, Michigan, to his parents Preston Clarence and Doris Irene (Beland) Mathews. He was raised in Harbor Springs and graduated from Harbor Springs High School in 1974. He then moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where he attended North Central Bible College and later worked in the Minneapolis School system as an employee for a number of years. He returned to the Harbor Springs area in 2004 to live and be active in the local and church community.

In 2012, Preston married Dixie Lea Hansen and moved to live in Grand Rapids. Together, they attend Generations Assembly of God in Walker, Michigan and was active in local church activities. Preston had a nature to always helping those in need along with always trying to better himself and make a difference in this world in whatever he was involved in. One of his favorite bible verses was Psalm 18:35, “Thou hast given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy right hand both holden me up, and thy gentleness hath made me great.

Preston is preceded in death by his parents Preston Clarence, Doris Mathews, and his wife Dixie (Hansen) Mathews who passed away on December 26, 2025.

Preston will be missed by his siblings Diana Girard, Windy Mathews, Loralee (Gary) Stevens and Richard (Cheyrl) Mathews along with his nieces and nephews and many friends he touched during his life.
