Phyllis Gilbert

Phyllis J. Gilbert, 89, of Rockford, passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2018. She was born on June 1, 1929, in Grand Rapids, to the late Herman & Jessica (DeYoung) Wiseman. Phyllis married Eugene Gilbert on March 6, 1950, in Alameda, California. He preceded her in death on April 12, 1996. She worked as a Bookkeeper for Grand Rapids Building Trades Credit Union, AAA Insurance, and was co-owner of Geneo's Pizza at Bostwick Lake and Geneo's Bar in Sparta. Phyllis enjoyed time with family, being silly with her grandkids, painting, ceramics, and especially enjoyed cooking and eating a really good meal! She was a member of the Rockford American Legion Auxiliary Post 102. Survivors include her two children, Valerie (James) Poot and Scott (Debra) Gilbert; 4 grandchildren, Tina (Chad) Hendrick, Jason (Rebecca) Poot, Andrew (Amy) Gilbert and Jenna (Andrew) Arter; and eleven great-grandchildren, Lauren, Nicholas, Matthew, Jacob, Catherine, Claire, Nora, Calvin, Owen, Oliver and Mae. Phyllis' family is having a "Celebration of Life" at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at Rockford American Legion Post 102 to share a lunch and some fun memories. Arrangements are entrusted to Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Grand Rapids.
