He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Jean (Stuller) McAlvey; his children, Brian (Jackie) and Gordon (Jessica) McAlvey; his grandchildren, Charley (Tyler) Bogart, Hope and Leslie McAlvey, Maryjane Sena McAlvey, and Dustin Chase; his great-grandson, Axel Chase; sister, brothers, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Duanda (Thearon) Earegood, Judy (Ken Frick) McAlvey, David (Cindy) McAlvey, Stephen (Penny) McAlvey, William (Candi) McAlvey; MaryAnn Stuller; and Dennis (Robin) Leto; and many nieces and nephews. Phillip graduated from Carson City High School, Class of 1969. Following graduation, he completed one year of Bible training at Grand Rapids Baptist Bible College. He had nearly a decade of experience at R.L. Grandy Construction as well as close to 3 decades at Federal-Mogul. A devoted follower of Christ, he served as a deacon and was an active lifelong member of the Frist Baptist Church of Carson City. In addition, he served as treasurer on the board of The Springs Ministries in Gladwin, MI. An avid outdoor enthusiast, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking. Next to his love for the Lord, he enjoyed his large family whether visiting quaint out-of-the-way places with his adoring wife, attending sporting events for his "girls," or swinging a hammer, bale of hay, or an axe with his brothers. Spending time and helping out on the family farm was a large part of his life. This deeply loved man will be sorely missed by his friends and family! A service of remembrance (with a meal to follow) is planned for 11 a.m. January 16, 2021 at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Center located at 10204 E. Carson City Rd, Carson City, MI, 48811. To error on the side of caution, the family is requesting that masks be worn other than during the meal. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in memorial to Fellowship Baptist Academy. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Christiansen's Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Greenville, (616) 754-5638.
