Philip Edward Ferren, 66 of Lansing, Michigan, died at home on February 11, 2025.
Philip was born April 29,1958 in Crescent City, California to Bert and Verna Rich Ferren. The fifth of seven children. His childhood was spent moving between California, Ketchikan, Alaska and Oregon before the family settled in Coquille, Oregon in 1972. In 1977 he joined the Army and spent four years serving his country. He moved home to Coquille, attended community college with an emphasis in psychology/counseling. Phil met and married Sharon Corbin in 1981 and in 1984, they were blessed with their daughter Andrea Denay. Philip and Sharon divorced in 1991. In 1996 he married Heidi Golsch and adopted her son Rob. They were divorced in 2004. He worked for the Coos County Juvenile Department for 11 years and spent six years as a North Bend Reserve Officer before opening his own hearing aid office in Coquille in 1996. In 2006, he sold his business and moved to Michigan to continue hearing aid sales. In 2022-23 Philip spent a lot of time in Maryland helping care for his brother Bert and his wife Emily.
Philip was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Pottersville Lodge #367 in Eaton County. He enjoyed firearms, self-defense training and good books. He was an enthusiastic debater and fluent in sarcasm. He enjoyed history – the more mystery around it, the more he entertained it. He put his kids first and that’s how we’ll remember him.
Philip was preceded in death by his parents Bert & Verna, his brothers and their spouses, Tom & Joyce Stiltner and Bert & Emily Ferren, his sister Bonita Henderson and his babies Jennifer Nicole (1982) and Timothy Bert (1986). He is survived by his daughter Andrea Ferren and grandson Jordan, his son Rob Ferren and wife Jeanine, his sister Patricia Ferren, brother Ross & wife Kari Ferren, brother Derrick Ferren and many nieces and nephews.
To respect his wishes, we will be having a small family gathering in the spring.
