Penelope Hughes

Penelope Nadine (Hobson) Hughes, age 78, of Hastings, passed away April 20, 2021. Penny was born in Flint on January 23, 1943. She was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Elsie Hobson; sisters, Donna Draheim, Ardith Nicholas; and husband, Kenneth Hughes. Penny is survived by her brother, Irwin (Betty) Hobson of West Branch, MI; daughters, Dee Dee Hughes of Belleville, MI, Telesa (Curtis) Taylor of Hastings, MI; grandson, Sean Taylor of Hastings, MI; step-grandchildren, Chynthia (Todd) Bromley, Kevin Taylor, April Taylor; and nieces and nephews. Penny graduated from Beecher High School in 1961. A few years later she married Kenneth Hughes in 1965. Together they resided in New Lothrop, MI until they moved to Lupton, MI in 1978. Penny retired as a school bus driver from West Branch/Rose City School District. She and Ken moved to Hastings, MI upon retirement. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Sebewa and a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association since 1984. Penny loved to craft and had recently taken up quilting. Her greatest joys were spending time with her family, watching her grandson bowl, and talking to anyone who would lend an ear. Penny was never one to complain and always quick to share a smile. Her door was always open and her laughter infectious. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
