Patricia Powell

Patricia (Patty) Anne Duncan Powell passed away Friday March 23, 2018 after a long battle with cancer. Patty Powell was born in Cleveland, Texas 1933 on April 1. She was a transplanted "Texan" who moved to Michigan to be near her family and fell in love with wonderful friends she made while here. She was a member of Northlawn United Methodist Church & an avid reader with Knapp Valley Book Club. She was married in 1955 to the love of her life Jack Powell. They had 49 wonderful years together and were blessed with two sons, Duncan and Doug. She was preceded in death by husband Jack Powell and sister Mary McCabe. She is survived by her son Duncan and wife Kathi, son Doug and wife Geri, grandchildren Drew & Hayden, Corinne, Seth & Laura, Aubrey & Sean Simot and Jaimie. Great grandchildren Harlow, Liam, Juno & Caleb; and two nieces in Texas, Trisha and Kathy. A Memorial service will be held at Northlawn United Methodist Church at 157 Northlawn St. NE Grand Rapids, Michigan 49505 on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at 11am. Visitation for family and friends will begin at 10am. Patty epitomized the genteel southern "Steel Magnolia" - gracious, generous, creative, smart, sassy, clear of vision, strong in her faith and convictions, fiercely protective of her loved ones and joyfully embraced life - a true role model.
