Norman F. Pike, age 90 of Hudsonville, formerly of Houghton Lake, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 5, 2024.
He was born on November 6, 1933 in Royal Oak, Michigan to Frank and Stella Pike.
Norman married the love of his life, Marcia Wainwright, on August 17, 1957. He sang the song “Because” on their wedding day. The final lyric was “God made you mine,” which indeed was true as together they shared 66 plus years of marriage, living life to the fullest, side by side.
Norman graduated from Marlette High School, went to Michigan State University with a focus on agriculture, earned his First Class Engineering License, and attended New York School of Music. He was a member of several organizations, which included the Lions, Gideons, and Merchants Clubs. Also, Norman served on the Houghton Lake School Board of Education and was the president of many of these clubs as well. He was a member of the Houghton Lake United Methodist Church and for the last ten years he attended Shekinah Revival Ministry Church in Holland.
Norman held many titles in his life, from insurance adjuster, limousine chauffeur (at LaGuardia Airport, New York), Detroit News/Detroit Free Press distributor, singer, and Park Place rental business owner. The majority of his career was spent managing the radio stations at Houghton Lake - Sparks Broadcasting Company (WHGR/WJGS). Norman proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, and served on the Intrepid.
He enjoyed traveling, anything involving music, tinkering on various projects, Farmall tractors, country drives, and ice cream!
All who encountered Norm knew he was a man of integrity, who worked hard and was always there to help.
Surviving Norman is his treasured wife, Marcia Pike; daughters, Jillayne Pike, Janelle Pike and Jackie (Mike) Stanifer; Grandchildren, Jennifer (Josh) Johnson, Jocelyn (Tim) Harper, and Jeffrey Norman (Noelle) Stanifer; Great grandchildren, Emma Johnson, Liam Johnson, and Elias Norman Stanifer; Brother,Winston Pike; Second cousin, Joy (Al) Tepedino; numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by parents, Frank & Stella Pike; sisters Marilyn Nichols and Vonda Thompson; uncle, Jay (Gloria) Hilborn; aunts, Velva Chancey and Eva Snyder.
Though Norm had many job titles in his life, his true passion was seeking and serving God with all his being. He used his God given gift of singing and music to touch the lives of everyone he knew. His beautiful baritone voice can never be replaced, but we look forward to the day we join our voices together with his in praise to the King of Kings. His love for his family was indescribable, yet deeply known by each person. His grandchildren were truly the delight of his heart and his great grandchildren brought joy beyond measure. Norm's daughters truly know that they had the best Dad ever and are so very thankful. He will be dearly missed.
A celebration of Norman's life will be held this summer. Memorial donations can be made to Shekinah Revival Ministries.
