Norma Cope

Mrs. Norma Jean Cope, age 79, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2008 at at her home in Barryton, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was cared for with love by Everett, her husband of 57 years, Hospice of Central Michigan, and her heavenly Father. Norma Jean was born in Goodman, Missouri, on February 12, 1929, to Broce and Birdie Hines. She married Everett Cope on June 8, 1951, moving to Bakersfield, California, where their children were born. They returned to Missouri, then lived in Iowa, Colorado, and Detroit before settling in Barryton to open a restaurant in 1982. Norma Jean worked as a cosmetologist and as an executive secretary at an insurance company. Norma Jean enjoyed quilting, knitting--she taught Everett to knit when he was on sick leave--crocheting, and collecting green glass. She was involved in Campfire Girls with her daughter, and was a partner in their restaurant. Norma Jean is survived by her husband Everett; her son Broce (Lera) Cope of Port Clinton, Ohio; her daughter Velda (Kevin) Kirby of Dearborn Heights, Michigan; grandsons Curtis Cope, Douglas Cope, Joseph Troskos, and Theodore Troskos; granddaughters Deirdre Troskos and Coleen Kirby; and her brother Kenneth (Rose) Hines.
