Nancy Schmidt

April 16, 1949 — April 8, 2024

Nancy Kay Schmidt passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, April 8, 2024, at her home in Hudsonville, Michigan. She was born on April 16,1949, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Nancy’s thoughtfulness shone through her countless hand-painted cards with encouraging notes. As Nelson Mandela said, “A good head and good heart are always a formidable combination. But when you add to that a literate tongue or pen, then you have something very special.” Nancy is survived by her beloved husband, Bernie; daughters, Jennifer (Tyce) and Erika (Chad); 12 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. Nancy was the oldest of 10 children and was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Doris Popma and siblings, Steve and Kurt Popma. Nancy was a devoted wife and the heart of her family. She enjoyed managing her home, and that included her toughest job of managing Bernie! One would never enter or leave her presence without a hug. Nancy was a gourmet cook and a competitive game player. Bernie and Nancy’s ministry was personally preparing and mentoring 77 couples in their home for marriage. Some of her gifts and hobbies included accounting, administration, gardening, bird watching (but only the beautiful ones!) and watercolor painting. Nancy’s naturally beautiful smile, love for people, and relentless hope will always be remembered. Surely, her life was a testament of faith, resilience, and victory. We want to immensely thank Angie and Brian from Corewell Health Hospice and encourage any donations to be made there in Nancy’s name (Click the link below to donate online) A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, April 22, 2024, and will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. at Grand Rapids First Life Center, 2222 44th St. SW, Wyoming, MI 49519.
