Nancy Anttila

March 30, 1955 — November 23, 2023

Nancy Elizabeth (Schetter) Anttila, age 68, of Marquette, Michigan and recently of Tucson, Arizona, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 23, 2023. She was born March 30, 1955, in Evanston, Illinois, to the late Donald and Gloria (Berger) Schetter. Nancy was the oldest of eleven children to Don and Gloria. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School with the class of 1973. She worked many years as a lunch lady and support staff with the Marquette Area Public Schools. Nancy was in the know with the local gossip at all times. She could always be found looking for Daniel after his curfew, helping Bobby with his campaign events, and “coffee clutching” at McDonalds in the Marquette Walmart. Nancy was no stranger to the casino and even had “The Nancy Bet” named after her at the Ojibwa Casino craps table. Bingo, craps, and black jack were her favorites; many hours were spent at the bingo hall with her parents and sitting at slot machines with her son, Bobby and friends, Alex, Tom, and Rosina. Nancy had a generous heart of gold and was one of the most caring and giving of people. She was an enthusiastic and competitive bargain shopper whose thoughtful nature put everyone else’s needs, desires, and favorites at the top of her list during her exciting shopping adventures. Her sons, siblings, nieces and nephews will always remember the big family Christmas gatherings and how she would have a gift for each and every one of them. Nancy will be miss and remembered by her sons, Daniel Schetter and Bobby Anttila; grandson, Derek Jones; life-partner, Mike Mayer; siblings, Jean (Jeff) McDonald, Don (Becky) Schetter, Jim (Tina) Schetter, Mary (Greg) Anderla, Cathy (Randy) Pickens; Mike Schetter, Tom Schetter, Steve (Vicky) Schetter, and Joe (Mindy) Schetter; aunt, Sue Bodell; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and staff of Tucson Medical Center for all of their care, help, and support throughout this difficult time. Per her wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of Nancy’s life is being planned for summer of 2024 for close friends and family. Burial of her cremated remains will be in the Nadeau Township Cemetery next to her parents.
