Monty Hunter

Monty Alan Hunter, aged 68, passed away at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, on Monday, July 18, 2022. He was born in Jackson, on July 13, 1954, the son of Douglas Sr. and Bonnie (Lane) Hunter. Monty was born in Jackson and raised in Leslie, Michigan prior to moving to Jackson, Michigan later in life. He was a charter member of the Sons of the American Legion, Lyle Edwards Post 491 for over 40 years. He also served his community on the Leslie Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his parents; Doug Sr. and Bonnie (Lane) Hunter; brother, Lonnie Hunter; three sisters, Val Hunter, Dianne Lyons, and Andrea Gieske; and granddaughter, Hailey Hunter. Monty is survived by four children, Matt Hunter, John (Claire) Hunter, Brandon (Amanda) Hunter, Kristen (Coty) Hunter; longtime partner and friend, Jenny (Jay) Sorenson; ten grandchildren, Cadence, Madison, Elijah, Madisyn, Riley, Max, Benjamin, William, Thomas, and Samuel; four brothers, Doug Hunter of Okemos, Lon (Nancy) Cooper, Ronald "Craig" (Dawn) Cooper, Kurt (Harumi) Cooper; one sister, Vickey (Frank) Limberg; and his little buddy, Westin, as well as an array of cousins and friends. Memorial services will be held at the American Legion, Lyle Edwards Post 491, on August 27th, 2022 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Grand Rapids, (616) 452-3006.
