Millison Jeanne Hughey (“Millie”), 73, of Ionia, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on July 19, 2026.

Millie was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Genevieve and Francis Reed. She graduated from Creston High School and went on to pursue her passion for nursing. She married Ralph LaCombe, and together they welcomed two daughters, Jenny and Francie. She later married, Charles Hughey, and they shared 25 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they were blessed with six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Millie was a joyful person who had a gift for making friends wherever she went. She was loving, caring, funny, and, at times, wonderfully outspoken. She loved all of her children—not only those she gave birth to, but everyone who became part of her family. She often said, “What’s one more potato in the pot?” because there was always room for one more at her table and in her heart.

She loved traveling, watching hot air balloons, reading her Bible, and also her four cats Bellla, Trouble, Luna and Lucy. Above all else, Millie loved her family. She was a selfless and giving woman who helped raise her grandchildren and was happiest when she was surrounded by the people she loved. Her greatest mission in life was making sure her family knew Jesus Christ. She lived her faith every day and was deeply devoted to her relationship with the Lord.

Millie was also known for her incredible baking and for never missing life’s important moments. Whether it was a birthday, graduation, baby shower, baptism, or wedding, she made every effort to be there. She had a way of making people laugh, offering a listening ear, and giving honest advice when it was needed. She truly showed up for the people she loved.

She will be remembered as a God-fearing woman, a devoted wife, a loving mother, a cherished grandmother and great-grandmother, and a faithful friend whose kindness and generosity touched countless lives.

Millie is survived by her daughter, Jenny Posthumus; her grandchildren, Breona Edwards, Charles Hughey, Ronald Lemke-Hughey, Nehemiah Taylor (Tara), Alexis Sprague (Nate), and Genevieve LaCombe; along with her great-grandchildren and many extended family members and friends who will forever cherish her memory.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Genevieve and Francis Reed; her brothers; Frank, George ,Steve, and Hank; her beloved husband, Charles Hughey; and her daughter, Francie (Frannie).

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that Millie is now at peace in the presence of her Savior, whom she faithfully loved and served throughout her life. Her legacy of faith, compassion, and unconditional love will live on in all who knew her.

Visitation with the family will be from 1-2 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2026 at Life Community Church, 9206 W. Peck Lake Road, Greenville, with a memorial services following at 2:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating Millie’s life, sharing memories, and honoring the lasting legacy of faith, love, and kindness that she leaves behind.
