"Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans." This quote from John Lennon perfectly encapsulates the spirit of Michonne Kathryn Combs, a woman who lived life on her own terms. Born on April 17, 1966, in Greenville, Michigan, Michonne lived a life filled with love, laughter, and an abundance of courage. Her journey on this earth came to a close on May 24, 2025, but her memory continues to light up the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Michonne was a woman of exceptional strength, resilience, and tenacity. She spent over three decades providing compassionate care as a Nurse's Aide at Twin Oaks Retirement Home. Her ability to empathize with others, coupled with her innate kindness and gentle spirit, made her an invaluable member of the Twin Oaks community. But Michonne's unwavering honesty was perhaps her most memorable trait. She was never shy about expressing her opinions, and those who knew her best loved her for it.
Beyond her career, Michonne was a woman of many passions. She found joy in the simplest of activities, whether it was casting a line into a quiet lake, hunting for treasures in an antique shop, or creating culinary masterpieces in the kitchen. She was a devoted mother, a loyal friend, and an unfailingly dedicated partner to me, Gina Ponder. Her love for our family, our five cats, and her love of fishing were the pillars that defined her life. She was, in essence, the heart and soul of our home.
Michonne leaves behind her father, Ernest Miller, Jr.; her son, Nathan Combs, and daughter-in-law, Fate; her step-son, Vincent Ponder, and me, her life partner, Gina. She is reunited in death with her mother, Barbara Anderson, who preceded her in passing.
Michonne Kathryn Combs was a beacon of light in our lives, a woman whose legacy is etched in love, kindness, and courage. As we remember her, let us celebrate her life and the joy she brought into ours. We invite you to share your memories of Michonne and upload photos of her on the memorial page at: www.MichiganCremation.com. In this way, we can ensure that Michonne's spirit lives on, inspiring us just as she did in life.
