Michael James Sowers, or as he was fondly known, Mike, Dad and Grandpa. Born in Alma, Michigan, on July 3rd 1953, he eventually made his way to Gowen, after spending his younger years in Saint Louis, Ithaca, Kansas and Greenville not to mention various military bases stateside and two tours in Germany. A man of resilience, even though he may have been dealt some bad hands in his 70 years, he kept marching on, and on and on. As Tock reminds us from "The Phantom Tollbooth", "Time is important, but it's what you do with it that makes it so!"
After serving his country for 16 years in the Army, Mike took on the business of leisure. He enjoyed watching documentaries and crime shows, playing cards, sitting outside by a fire and spending quality time with his family and friends. He loved nothing more than his children, grandchildren, and a good hand at cards of course. If you ever asked him where he was happiest, he would tell you it was surrounded by his family and friends, preferably with cards in his hands and the best local pizza nearby.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne & Alice (Baney) Sowers; and his dear brother, Dan Sowers.
Mike is survived by his sons, Jacob Sowers and Christian Sowers; his granddaughters, Brianne Wolfgang and Taylor Sowers; a grandson, Logan Sowers; his sister, Connie Clarke; several cousins, nieces and nephews; and Michael's ex-wife, Mary Kubin.
As we bid farewell to Mike, we invite you to share a memory and words of wisdom with his friends and family. Let's remember him as he was - resilient, a lover of classic rock and the importance of time here with family. Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place and the family will invite the close relatives and friends for a private celebration of life at a later date. The family asks you contact Christian if you'd like to be added to the future plans.
