It is with gentle sorrow and immense love that we announce the peaceful passing of Michael W. Marsac at the age of 69 on Sunday, January 5, 2025, a vibrant soul whose music and laughter touched all those fortunate enough to cross his path. Born in Pontiac, Michigan, on July 8, 1955, Michael was a true embodiment of the words of Plato, "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything”. He will be remembered for many reasons, most notably for his lifetime legacy of music he created through his gifted abilities in singing, songwriting and storytelling.
Michael’s music was highly influenced by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Jimi Hendrix, B. B. King, Albert King, Les Paul, Dick Wagner, Brian Wilson and Paul McCartney. His love for music was just as strong as his love for family and friends. Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting Michael would agree that he was kind, thoughtful, loving, generous, creative, and witty. He had a strong connection to God, the Universe, Angels and his ancestors. He was always smiling with a strong, positive mindset even in the face of adversity.
When he wasn’t making music, he enjoyed watching the Andy Griffith show, Svengoolie, Highway Patrol, historical & paranormal documentaries, and his all-time favorite movie - Edison, the Man. Michael loved people and had a way of helping others feel seen and heard, whether through his music or friendships. He believed in fated and destined life events. He had a great love for his country and was very patriotic. He enjoyed being outside in nature, searching for and collecting rocks or artifacts, and sky gazing.
Michael’s life was a concert of love-filled moments, enriched by his passion for music and colored with the hues of beautiful and rhythmic melodies. His career was a harmonious blend of music and service to his community. He served as a musician and a groundskeeper for the Oakland County Government in Pontiac, Michigan, until his retirement in 2021. His music transcended the boundaries of the workplace, resonating in the hearts of his colleagues and all who had the pleasure of listening. His love for music was matched only by his love for his wife and family and the serene beauty of his residence in Paris, Michigan, where he spent the last four years of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Ruth Marsac; his step-daughter, Ashley Vaughn; and his brothers, John “Rick” Stockwell, Joseph Stockwell, and Stephen Stockwell.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Michelle Marsac, whom he married on February 2, 2022. The symphony of his life was also enriched by his children, Marisa (Nathan) Marsac, Elizabeth Marsac, Jacob Marsac, Zachary Marsac, and Olivia Marsac; and his grandson, Luca Cantu. Michael also leaves behind his half-sister, Cathy Dubre; his step-daughters, Laura (Adam) Bozeman, and Lisa (David) Newsome; step-grandson, Nathan (Marisa) Crum; sons-in-law, David (Lisa) Newsome and Adam (Laura) Bozeman; step-granddaughters, Emma Newsome, Kara Newsome, Bella Bozeman, and Lacey Bozeman; sister-in-law, Debra Carpenter-Stockwell; a niece, Wendy Stockwell Martin, and her children, Devin Arbuckle, Joey Martin, and Jacob Martin; and a nephew, Jason Orlich & Tracie Lynn Voltz-Orlich, and their children, Isabella Orlich and Liam Orlich.
As we remember Michael, we are reminded of a quote by Maya Angelou, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Michael's life was a testament to this truth. His music, his laughter, and his love will forever echo in our hearts.
