Michael J. King, age 67, of Fenwick, formerly of Belding, passed away Monday morning, September 16, 2013 at his home under the loving care of his family and Spectrum Health Hospice. The son of Eddie Vern & Sylvia Gertie (Davis) King, he was born on August 3, 1946 in Jackson. Following high school, Mike served in the U.S. Army and was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War. On March 22, 1969, in Greenville, he married the former Joan Eva Johnson and together they enjoyed 25 years of marriage until Joan passed away on May 13, 1993.
Mike enlisted in the Michigan National Guard in 1973, serving for almost 19 years and attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was called back to active duty in support of Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm and he retired from the former Extruded Metals in Belding after 34 years of service.
On September 18, 2004 he married Christine (Hanna) Kennedy and they would have celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary this Wednesday. His greatest joy in life was time spent with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Joan King; and a step-son, Charles William Charlie Kennedy on May 18, 2004.
Surviving are his wife, Chris Kennedy-King of Fenwick; a daughter, Shelley & Scott Gladding of Belding; a step-daughter, Dorothy & Ed Tripp of Grand Rapids; his parents-in-law, Charles & Janice Hanna of Gowen; nine grandchildren; and many other dear family and friends.
