Michael Idema

Michael L. Idema, age 67, of Grand Rapids, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2018 at home surrounded by family, under the care of Faith Hospice. The son of Lorrence & Waneta Jo (Lucas) Idema, he was born on March 7, 1951 in Grand Rapids. Michael pursued his education at Michigan State University, graduating in 1973. He went on to Wayne State University to continue his education and study law, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1976 with a Juris Doctorate. Michael started his own law practice and continued practicing his love of law for 36 years. Aside from his love of law, Michael was an avid reader, fisherman, hunter, painter, hiker, and had a passion for nature. Michael was preceded in death by his mother; step-father, Kenneth Phillips; sister, Debra Nowicki; and brother-in-law, George Nowicki. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 47 years, Linda Idema; son, Eric & Scarlett Idema; daughter, Jennifer Idema & Ryan Fowler; grandchildren, Max Idema, Josie Idema, Jacob Idema, Ethan Fowler, and Rowan Fowler; brothers, David & Jan Idema, and Robert Idema; special friends, Dennis & Lorraine Buttermore; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. A celebration of life will take place on Sunday, May 20, 2018 from 2-6 p.m. at Long Lake Park, 13747 Krauskopf Rd.
