Michael Hood

Michael Frederick Hood, age 74 of Greenville, formerly of Alpena, passed away Tuesday morning, September 2, 2008 at home under the loving care of his family and Heartland Hospice. The son of John F. Jack and Maebelle Jane (Gruelich) Hood, he was born on May 10, 1934. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mike served during the Korean Conflict and following his discharge, earned his Bachelors degree from Wayne State University and his Masters degree from Michigan State University. He then worked in the automobile manufacturing industry, first for General Motors and then Ford Motor Company. On May 25, 1963, in Danville, Kentucky, he married Anne Elizabeth Pruitt. Later, the family relocated to Alpena where he began a career in education at Alpena Community College, retiring as Dean of Administration. In Alpena, he was a member of St. Annes Catholic Church and the Alpena Yacht Club. Three years ago, Mike and Anne moved to Greenville and were members of St. Charles Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, William Hood. Surviving are his wife of over 45 years, Anne Hood of Greenville; a daughter and son-in-law, Leah & Tom Talaski of Greenville; a son and daughter-in-law, William & Melissa Hood of Alpena; five grandchildren, Kaitlyn Michelle Talaski and Brian Thomas Talaski, both of Greenville, and triplets, Jack Pruitt Hood, Hanna Elizabeth Hood, and Isabelle Grace Hood, all of Alpena; two brothers, John & Betty Hood of Grosse Isle, and Bert & Sandy Hood of Phoenix, Arizona; a sister, Margaret & Pete Frejkowski of Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania; a sister-in-law, Mary Jo & Hugh Coomer; a brother-in-law, King & Brenda Pruitt, all of Danville, Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at St. Charles Catholic Church, Greenville, with Father Phil Salmonowicz as celebrant. Burial will take place privately at Bellevue Cemetery in Danville, Kentucky. Visitation is Friday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Greenville, and also at the church on Saturday one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Envelopes for memorial contributions to either the Renucci Hospitality House of Spectrum Health-Butterworth or to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Montcalm County will be available.
