Michael Haynes

July 18, 1947 — December 18, 2016

Michael Jay Haynes, age 69, of Kentwood passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Sunday, December 18, 2016. He was the oldest of 4 children, born on July 18, 1947, in Cedar Springs. After graduating high school, Mike joined the US Army and became a Captain during the Vietnam war. Mike retired after 30 years with General Motors as a machine repairman at the Wyoming plant on the corner of Burlingame and Burton. Mike enjoyed golfing, bowling, billiards, playing cards and reading. He was a fan of all sports, and could be found, cheering loudly, watching his favorite team, the University of Michigan wolverines. Mike was a proud member of the American Legion Post 179 and the Wyoming Moose Lodge #763. Mike was preceded in death by his dear mother, Lois Vernita (Dussel) Haynes; and sister-in-law, Julie Haynes. He will be missed by his loving wife of 34 years, Penny Haynes; father, James Haynes; children, Michael (Luann) Haynes, Nikki (Mike) Wiltzer, and Melissa Cummings; grandchildren, Keralyn (Jonathon) Noteboom, Alec Haynes and Bella Wiltzer; great grandchild, Elliot Noteboom; siblings, Duane (Vicky) Haynes, Roger (Elise) Haynes and Beverly (Ken) Bladen; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank Kim and Steve of Heartland Hospice Care for their care and compassion. Visitation with family to celebrate Mike's life will be held 11:00 - 12:30 Wednesday, December 28, 2016 with a memorial service at 12:30 at Michigan Creation & Funeral Care, 3627 Linden Ave. SE, Wyoming (off of 36th Street, one block west of Eastern Ave.) In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mike's favorite charity, Santa Claus Girls of Kent County, envelopes will be provided at the memorial service. Honoring is wishes, cremation will take place. Arrangements are entrusted to Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Grand Rapids.
