Maxine Svendsen

Mrs. Maxine Elizabeth (Paulsen) Svendsen, age 92, of Silver Spring, Maryland, formerly of Greenville, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2010 in Beltsville, Maryland. The daughter of Henry W. & Medea V. (Thomsen) Paulsen, was born on December 26, 1918 in Greenville. After graduating from Greenville High School in 1936, she worked for the Gibson Refrigerator Company as a secretary. On January 31, 1943, in a small ceremony at her parent's Turk Lake home, she married Kendall L. Svendsen. After World War II, Maxine and Kendall settled in the Washington, D.C. area, which had been Kendall's last Army posting. Maxine worked at the Department of Interior as a secretary for a few years. Kendall's job was transferred to Boulder, Colorado in 1971. They returned to Maryland in 1990. Kendall and Maxine travelled extensively for both Kendall's work and for pleasure. Maxine enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, bookkeeping, and puttering around her home. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kendall L. Svendsen on July 18, 2005; and a son, Jeffrey Lee Svendsen on March 12, 2006. Surviving are two daughters, Nancy Svendsen and Jean Svendsen; a nephew, John Svendsen; a niece, Sally Farabee; and several cousins. Visitation is Monday from 1-2 p.m. at the Christiansen Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Steve Charnley, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will officiate and burial will take place privately at Little Denmark Cemetery in Gowen.
