Mary Lois Vroon, age 89, of Grand Rapids, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2023. She was born on May 2, 1933, in Grand Rapids, to Jay & Janette (Spoelstra) Boerema.
She married the love of her life, John W. Vroon on September 14, 1963. After one week of amazing dates, John asked her to marry him. Their love and devotion lasted their entire lives! He preceded her in death on September 6, 2021.
Mary attended Calvin University. She obtained her Master's Degree from the University of Michigan. She worked as an elementary teacher and later tutored dyslexic children and adults.
Our mom was a kind and sensitive soul, with a deep inner strength. She showed us in her last days just how strong she was by fighting to stay a little longer to say goodbye to her family. Mary enjoyed reading, knitting, writing, and spending time with her children and grandchildren, camping and enjoying nature together. Mary was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother who spent her time enjoying a thoughtful book and watching her children and grandchildren's sporting events. Her love for everyone in her family flowed through greeting cards for every birthday or holiday and knitting Christmas stockings for the entire family. She was gifted academically, and as an actress in her early years, in her many plays at Christian High and Calvin. Our beautiful mother was a compassionate and loving woman who thought about others and treated everyone around her with love. We are so thankful and blessed to have so many wonderful memories of her love!
Survivors include her two daughters, Marie (Eric) Jansen and Patricia (Greg) Vroon-Frank; son, John (Sonya) Vroon; her nine amazing grandchildren, Brian Jansen, Sarah (Jason) Johnson, Nick (Megan) Jansen, David Warsen, Aaron (Emily) Warsen, Kyle (Reyni) Warsen, Ryan Warsen (Rachel O'Leary), Sam Frank, Logan, and Avery Vroon; six great-grandchildren, her brother Bob (Doris) Boerema; and her Grace CRC family and friends sprinkled all over Grand Rapids.
Special thanks to her caregivers at American House - (Kentwood) and Faith Hospice.
She is preceded in death by her husband John W. Vroon; and grandson David John Warsen. We know that her recent reunion with her Creator, husband and David must have been something to behold! We look forward to the day we join them. Love is what binds us Together!
