She was born in Detroit, Michigan, in May of 1934 to the late Jack and Helen (Moffat) Powers. Mary met the love of her life, Joseph "Roger" Pelletier while attending Mackenzie High School in Detroit, Michigan. Both graduated from Mackenzie in 1952. They were married almost 18 years before Roger passed away in April of 1975 after his own short battle with lung cancer.
Mary lived most of her life in the Detroit metropolitan area and was a long-time member of St. Gerald's Catholic Church in Farmington, Michigan, where she was active in the Woman's Guild. For a number of years she co-owned and operated a small business in Romulus that produced wooden shipping crates and pallets and flooring panels for the heavy truck industry. She was very active in the Michigan Military Moms, providing support and encouragement to Moms and families of military personnel who served or were serving their nation. After moving to Sand Lake several years ago, she regularly attended St. John Paul II Catholic Church in Cedar Springs. During her life she was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, joyfully celebrating time spent with her family.
