Mary Osborn

Mrs. Mary Moore Osborn, age 96, of Sarasota, Florida, formerly of Highland Park, Illinois, passed away Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007 at The Springs at Lake Pointe Woods, Sarasota. The daughter of Scottish immigrants John Dawson & Catherine (Christie) Moore, she was born on Dec. 21, 1910 in Bicknell, Indiana. After graduating from high school, she attended The University of Indiana at Bloomington and earned her teaching certificate. She then taught grade school for a few years, until, during the Great Depression, her father relocated the family to Chicago where work was more plentiful. In 1937 she met Theodore L. Ted Osborn, Jr. and they were married in November of 1938. A devoted wife and mother, Mary also taught Sunday school at the First Presbyterian Church in Highland Park, IL, was a Cub Scout Den Mother, as well as volunteering for many community causes. Together, she and Ted were ardent curlers and traveled to meets in many cities across the northern U.S. and Canada. After retiring in 1972, she and Ted moved to Sarasota and first made their home on Siesta Key, and later on the mainland. In Sarasota, she was a member of St. Boniface Episcopal Church and volunteered for many years at the churchs Healing Mission. All their married life, they summered at the family cottage on Baldwin Lake in Greenville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore L. "Ted Osborn, Jr.; and a son, John Moore Osborn.
