Mary Lue McGrath, age 90, of Grand Rapids, beloved wife and mother, went to the loving arms of her Savior after a long battle with Parkinson's on August 22, 2018. Mary was born one of 10 children to Clayton & Martha Buelah (Duguid) Straw, on a country farm.
Mary's family was very important to her. After graduating from Phillips Country School 1-5 in Reading, MI at the age of 17, Mary held various jobs before following her older brother to the Grand Rapids area.
She met the love of her life, Burr E. McGrath, on a blind date in 1952. Married 63 years, she and Burr raised three daughters. Mary enjoyed being active in her children's lives and valued education. She had a deep faith in God that was handed down to her girls.
Throughout life, Mary had a taste for adventure and travel that she shared with Burr; flying to Jamaica for their 25th wedding anniversary, and taking many family camping trips around the US and into Canada. Upon retirement, Mary and Burr voyaged to Ireland, Tucson, Alaska, and Europe (where her arthritis was cured at Bath, England) to name a few destinations.
Mary is survived by her husband, Burr E. McGrath; daughters, Shawn & Rex Miller, Julie Renauldo, and Maureen & John Bilsky; grandchildren, Justin Renauldo, Casey Ade, Connor Bilsky, Max Renauldo, Zachery Renauldo, Dani Ade, Andrea & Jonathon DeYoung, Meaghan & Vince Valentine; step-grandchildren, Deskin Miller & Alex Grandstaff, Wesley Miller, Colin Miller, Anika Miller; a number of great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Wade, Jane & Morris McMurray, Ruthe McNee; sisters-in-law, Betty Taylor, Pat McGrath, Lucia Straw, Arlene McGrath; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
