Mary Lou Hehl, age 75, of Coopersville, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 11, 2018. Mary Lou was born and raised in Muskegon, where she graduated from Muskegon Catholic Central High School. She was the oldest of Nels & Mary Louise VanLente's twelve children. A fun-loving, compassionate person, Lou was beloved by many. She enjoyed playing golf and softball with her friends, and when she was able, worked as an active volunteer for the American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, and Meals on Wheels programs. Her memory will live on forever in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know her.
Lou was preceded in death by her daughter, Jackie Hehl; son-in-law, Scott Maxwell; and grandson, Samuel Wilfong. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Sue (Steve) Wilfong, Julie Maxwell, Andy (Jennifer) Hehl, and Stephanie (Tom) Stotenbur; long-time companion, Ken DeKorte; 13 grandchildren, Tom (Lauren) Klein, Chad Klein, Tyler (Lindsay) Maxwell, Gabby & Nick Hehl, Jillian & Parker Allen, Torey, Taylor & Samantha Maxwell, Dominic Wilfong, and Mason & Hayden Stotenbur; three great-grandchildren, Scott & Henry Maxwell, and Lincoln Allen.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 18, 2018 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 2510 Richmond St. NW, Grand Rapids, where visitation will take place from 9:15-11:00 a.m., with a time of food and fellowship to follow the service.
