Mary Frances (LaPonsie) Boruta completed her journey here on earth in the early evening of September 12, 2023.
Mary was the third child of ten born in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Joseph Evangelist LaPonsie Jr and Rose Irene Hewartson. She graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1972 and became the bride of Michael Daniel Boruta on May 3, 1975 in St Alphonsus Church in Grand Rapids.
Over her lifetime Mary worked for quite a number of places, mostly just working around raising her family of six children. Besides babysitting for so many, her first job was working at an Answering Service in the Keeler Bldg in downtown Grand Rapids where she was hired in by a lifetime friend, Dick Cunningham, at the age of 15. From there she developed quite a love for this line of work starting out on a line of stools with a wall of massive switch boards and wires and hands flying that is now can easily be done in one's home on a computer. Mary later worked at a few other services, along with a job as a cook at Catholic Central High School, a cashier for Meijer stores that later turned into a Manager for unclaimed checks, and then back for 25 years to Dick Cunningham as his office Manager for Cunningham Communications before she retired. A few months later, looking for something to do besides reading three or four novels a week, she returned to her beloved answering service job, and was currently employed part-time for Bennetts Answering Service out of Flint where she worked from home.
Mary had a remarkable Love and dedication to Life. She enjoyed her many school friends, enjoyed the opportunities that life presented, but above all, her love for her family.
Mary is survived by her husband, Mike; her children, Rose M. Winquest and her friend Andy Orcutt, Kathryn A. Finkler and her husband Adam, Joseph H. Boruta and his wife Becky, Robert S. Boruta, and Anna M. Raymor and her husband Ben. She was blessed with grandchildren - Elizabeth & Isaac Vela, John Winquest III and friend Jessica, Alexis and Jay Plett, Evan Winquest, Jordyn and Kennedy Boruta , Emma Orcutt, Giselle Del Real, Bennett and Eleanor Finkler, Ava and KJ Boruta, Lilly and Gabe Raymor, and two great grandchildren - Elijah and Juniper Vela.
She also leaves behind her siblings, Dave & Marilyn LaPonsie, Don Laponsie, Doug LaPonsie, Joe and Denise LaPonsie, Anne Calvery, Gerard and Lisa LaPonsie, Elizabeth K. LaPonsie, Margaret M. LaPonsie; and a sister-in-law, Sue LaPonsie, many precious nieces and nephews, as well as eight other sister-in-laws, and seven brother-in-laws.
Mary was preceded in death by her son, Michael D. Boruta II; a brother, Duane J. LaPonsie; a son-in-law, John Winquest; her parents; and a brother-in-law, Herm "Pug" Boruta.
Per Mary's request, Cremation will take place, and later in October, a Celebration of Life will be held.
Thank you to Faith Hospice and many nurses and staff at Blodgett Hospital and a special thanks to nurses Susan, Eric, Adrian, and Anna - you guys were so kind and helpful on this path of Mary's journey through Life and a credit to your field.
