Mary Allen

Mary Margaret Allen, age 74, of Sheridan, passed away Sunday evening, January 6, 2019 at her home under the loving care of her family and Hospice of Michigan. The daughter of John Peter & Mary Margaret (O'Hara) Ortman, she was born on April 30, 1944 in Detroit. On January 10, 1962, in Newport News, Virginia, she married Clarence Michael "Mike" Allen while he was serving with the U.S. Navy. Together they raised five children and would have celebrated their 57th anniversary on Thursday. Mary's greatest joy was in time spent with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a daughter, Nikkol Allen. Surviving are her husband, Mike Allen of Sheridan; their children, Helaine Allen of Grand Rapids, Patrick & Tracie Allen of Allegan, Vaughn & Sheila Allen of Lansing, and Dawn Allen of Ellabell, Georgia; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five brothers and sisters; and several nieces and nephews. Honoring her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family remembrance is being planned for a later date.
