Obituary

Marvin DeRaad, age 91, of Lakeview, Michigan, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2026 at his home under the loving care of his family and Corewell Health Hospice. The son of Marienus & Katherine “Katie” (Medendrop) DeRaad, he was born on September 13, 1934 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

On March 11, 1954, in Lakeview, Michigan, he married Dorothy Alice Shepard and together they raised 2 children and enjoyed 72 years of marriage. Marvin retired from General Motors and also owned and operated a family farm. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, snowmobiling, farming, and going fast!! Marvin had a rare gift for innovation — he could identify a problem or inefficiency and immediately envision a practical path forward to solve it.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gordy DeRaad; and two sisters, Carol DeRaad and Joyce McBryan.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy DeRaad of Lakeview; their son, Glenn DeRaad of Six Lakes, and daughter Linda DeRaad; grandchildren, Jamie (Bryan) Bohem, Kristin (Shane) O’Connor, Amanda Sanford, Brennan (Stephanie) DeRaad; great- grandchildren, Ethan, Coyt, Avery, Cactus, and Vanessa; two brothers, Art (Linda) DeRaad and Jerry (Cheryl) DeRaad; two sisters, Ann Gross and Janet Bolt; siblings-in-law, Alfred (Beatrice) Shephard, Art (Louise) Shephard, and Marge (Jim) Schnick; and many nieces and nephews.
