Martha Shirey

Martha Anastasia Shirey, age 91, of Grand Rapids, passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at her son's home under the loving care of her family and Spectrum Health Hospice. The daughter of Edward & Cecile (Gormont) Royer, she was born on July 2, 1920 in LeContes Mills, Pennsylvania. Martha enjoyed cooking and baking, was a devoted homemaker, mother, and grandmother, and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church Surviving are her son, David (Donna) Shirey of Grand Rapids; two grandchildren, David (Alexandra) Shirey of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Scott Shirey of Grand Rapids; two great grandchildren, Luke and Sarah Shirey of Cincinnati; and two nieces, Joann (Gary) Eichler of Niagara Falls, NY, and Louise (Robert) Thomas of Johnstown, PA. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1100 Lake Drive S.E., where the family will greet friends from 1:15 to 1:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Community Ministries Program at Trinity United Methodist Church or to Spectrum Health Hospice.
