Mark Stenberg

December 24, 1962 — May 11, 2024

Mark Alan Stenberg, 61, of Paris, Michigan, passed away after a short battle with small cell carcinoma on Saturday, May 11, 2024 surrounded by family in Big Rapids. He was born December 24, 1962, to the late Everett A. and Betty E. Stenberg. He was born in Big Rapids, Michigan and raised in Paris, where he remained his entire life. Mark started learning about farming at a very young age and really cherished the time with his father. After graduating from Reed City High School in 1981, he remained working as a farmer on their family farm, which he was proud of. Mark enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and farming. He loved going to the car races and cattle auctions. He found fun in old-style (Chevy) trucks, cars and tractors. He spent a lot of time collecting car parts and wished to restore an old Camaro that he had, but time got away from him. He was an avid Budweiser Stein collector and was known to partake in having a cold brew or more! He was a loyal patron of local eateries and especially enjoyed the traditions of going to the Reed City VFW Chicken BBQ with family for a good meal. In the summertime, treats at the Dairy Depot and A&W were his favorite too! Mark knew a lot of people. And a lot of people knew Mark by his unique, rugged, farmer-look and seemingly quiet demeanor, which may have played a part in his neighborhood nickname “Stoney”. Those that knew him well, heard his stories of hunting, farming and more. Behind his long hair, long beard and hat, was a great big smile that could light up a room! Despite Mark’s way of life of “going against the grain” in nearly all aspects of every norm, his nephew Jason became his go-to person. He reached out to Jason for help, especially around deer season and the winter months. They would joke and poke fun at each other. In addition, he had a big heart and soft spot for Jason’s children; Callie and Conner were his pride and joy. Mark is survived by his only sister Deborah (Stenberg) Chupp of Paris who was a true big sister and looked out and worried about him all of his life; two nephews: Joshua (Nicole) Chupp of White Cloud and Jason (Wendy) Chupp of Paris; a great-niece Callie Chupp and great-nephew Conner Chupp. Other step-great nieces and nephews include: Abby, Lily, Kaleb (Sarah) & Kameron (Kayla). He was preceded in death by his father in 2010 and mother in 2020. Mark will be laid to rest at the Crapo Cemetery in Green Township. The family appreciates the genuine care and services from the staff at Mission Point in Big Rapids and the Quality Care Hospice of Michigan and all those that have sent condolences to our family.
