Mark E. Mockerman, born on April 22, 1953, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2024. A compassionate and empathetic man, Mark was known for his loving nature and generous heart, always putting others before himself. He was a beacon of light in the lives of many, his impact resonating beyond his family and extending into his community. Mark was not just a teacher by profession, but he was a teacher in life, educating those around him on the values of kindness, patience, and love.
Mark retired from the GR Public Schools, but never ceased educating and inspiring. A lifelong music enthusiast, Mark played for years in the band Assurance with his friends. He carried this passion into his religious practice, often leading music at church services. Mark's love for music was only surpassed by his love for his family and friends. He was the proud father of seven children, but his heart was so expansive that many more called him dad and uncle. His hobbies included camping and fishing, activities he cherished as they often involved spending quality time with his loved ones.
He is survived by his wife, Gay Mockerman and their children, Eric (Deanna) Mockerman, Megin (Charlie) Benton, Ian Mockerman, Darius Mockerman, Kacey Mockerman, Aliyah Mockerman, and Kamari Mockerman; grandchildren, Brianna, Regan (Rocky), Grimm, Vendetta, and Kade; great-grandchildren, Yazmin and Jaelynn; and his seven siblings.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore Mockerman and Alma Gibbs.
"And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 4:7. Mark exemplified this verse throughout his life, sharing the peace and love of God with those around him.
