A much-loved husband, father, brother, and friend, Mark Lewis Hughes, age 72, passed away peacefully at his home on May 17, 2025, with his family present. He had a brief battle with pancreatic cancer and passed 9 weeks after his diagnosis. Mark was born September 8th, 1952, in Grand Rapids MI to his late parents, Muriel and Robert Hughes. The family lived many years in Cedar Springs, MI.
Mark is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sue Hughes, daughter Sarah-Boomgaard-Hughes (Devin), Son Alex Hughes, and Brother David Hughes (Jean).
One of Mark's last remarks was that he was proud of the life he and Sue had grown together. Mark was a “been there, done that” kind of man who could tell you a story about most topics you threw at him. He was witty and smart, but most of all, he was a loving father and husband who wasn’t afraid to show how deeply he cared for those around him.
Mark undoubtedly made a memorable impact on those whose lives he touched throughout his years, and all his family and friends will dearly miss him. A private Celebration of Life will be held in Mark’s honor at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to either Emmanuel Hospice or Salomon Klein Orphanage (Sarah and Alex’s orphanage in Bolivia) in Mark’s honor. (Click the links below to donate online)
