Mrs. Marjorie P. (Buffum) Wright, age 96, of Belding, passed away Wednesday evening, October 27, 2010 in Greenville. The daughter of Allen & Pearl (Graves) Oachampaugh, she was born on October 5, 1914 in Grand Rapids and was a graduate of Creston High School.
On June 21, 1935 she married the Rev. Earl F. Buffum and together they served Baptist churches in Stanton, Lyons, and Romeo until retiring to Florida. He preceded her in death in 1956.
Later she married Bernard Wright and they made their home in Ruskin, Florida where they owned a retirement park, as well as an orange grove. Bernie preceded her in death in 1983.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Harold Oachampaugh, who was killed in combat in Sicily during World War II; two sisters, Bonita Oachampaugh and Betty Geysbeek; two precious infant children, Mary Pearl Buffum and Bruce Buffum; and two step-grandsons, Jack Keech and Brian Keech.
Marjorie was a Womens Freestyle Archery State Champion and enjoyed tarpon fishing.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, David & Evelyne Buffum of Belding; two grandchildren, Bruce Allen & Becky Buffum of Gowen, and Terri & Joe Ondo of Navarre, Florida; a step-granddaughter, Sherry & Robert Rachel of Colfax, Louisiana; five great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Buffum and Arlene DeBryan; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Sunday from 1-2 p.m. at the Christiansen Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Rolla J. Timmons will officiate and burial will take place privately at Fairplains Cemetery in Grand Rapids.
