Marjorie Lillian "Marge" Ingersoll, age 89, of Greenville, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 14, 2022 at Spectrum Health-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. The daughter of Hugh D. & Lillian J. (Sass) Silverthorne, she was born on April 21, 1933 in Greenville and was a graduate of Greenville High School.
On January 24, 1953, at the Congregational Church parsonage in Greenville, she married Carl Richard Ingersoll and together they enjoyed 52 years of marriage until Carl passed away on May 6, 2005.
Marge worked for The Bell Telephone Company and also at the former United Memorial Hospital. She loved her family deeply and also demonstrated in word and deed the true meaning of loving your neighbor. She always strived to help any family, friend, or neighbor in need. For anyone who knocked on her door, she always had a cup of coffee to serve and an attentive ear ready to listen. In her later years, she enjoyed spending much time with her dear friend and neighbor, Deloris Steinburg.
Marge was well known for her canning abilities, including her famous canned tomatoes and applesauce, which was the source of many quarrels among the grandchildren growing up as to who got to eat the last bite in the applesauce jar. Marge spent many hours with her family, especially her grandchildren, around her kitchen table playing cards and board games. She had a green thumb and enjoyed working in her flower beds around her home. She also spent many hours quilting and embroidering. Her eyes would light up when an announcement was made that there was a new great-grandchild on the way and she would immediately begin working on a new quilt for the arrival of a new addition to the family.
As family was the most important thing to Marge, she set aside the first Saturday in December of each year for the entire family to gather at her home to celebrate Christmas. She cherished those memories and moments of having her family together. The vast immeasurable seeds of time she sowed into the hearts and lives of her family is her greatest legacy that will continue on for generations to come.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh & Lillian Silverthorne; her husband, Carl R. Ingersoll; an infant son, Bruce Richard Ingersoll; a son-in-law, Nick Warona; and her siblings, Donna Krampe, Dorothy Williams, Frances Merren, Bud Silverthorne, Robert Silverthorne, and Harry Silverthorne.
Surviving are her children, Kathy & Aaron Christensen of Sidney, Joellen Warona of Riverdale, Carl & Paulette Ingersoll of Greenville, and Kevin & Ann Ingersoll of Greenville; a sister, Virginia Lincoln; a brother, Ethan Silverthorne; a sister-in-law, Ruth Williams; her grandchildren, Todd Christensen, Jared & Kelly Christensen, Elizabeth Christensen, Miranda Sanders, Julie Bass, Stephanie & Tom Stevens, Jeremy & Amy Ingersoll, Justin & Katti Ingersoll, Joshua & Jama Ingersoll, Ashley & Ray Warner, Kevin Michael Ingersoll, and Brandi Moyer; nineteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation is from 12-1 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2022 at the Turk Lake United Methodist Church, 8900 W. Colby Road, Greenville, where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Marge's granddaughter, Elizabeth Christensen, will officiate and a luncheon will follow in the church hall.
Instead of flowers, Marge would have appreciated contributions in her memory to the American Diabetes Association. Envelopes will be available at the church.
