Marjorie D. DeVries, age 93, of the Belding-Greenville area, passed away Monday morning, September 29, 2014 at Spectrum Health-United Hospital Rehab & Nursing Center in Greenville. The daughter of Walter & Dorothy (Bannister) Duemler, she was born on May 23, 1921 and was a graduate of Grand Rapids South High School. Marjorie was a long-time member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Belding and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, John DeVries and Harry A. DeVries; a son, Gordon DeVries; a sister, Arlene Sturgis; and many siblings-in-law. Surviving are her children, Judy & Elindo Castro of Cedar Springs, Deb & Rick Howe of Greenville, Walt & Bobbi DeVries of Jenison, Gregory & Cheryl DeVries of Jenison; a daughter-in-law, Vicki DeVries of Lakeview; six sisters, Betty Rhoades, Mary Jane Lockwood, Pat Truszkowski, all of Grand Rapids, Nancy Thompson of Holland, Jackie Selbach of Grand Rapids, and Janet Steffens of Belmont; two brothers, Bob Duemler of Bay City, and Dick & Marilyn Duemler of Wyoming; fourteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and many, many nieces and nephews. Visitation is from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Christiansen Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. The Rev. Robert Wagner will officiate and interment will be in Chapel Hills Memorial Gardens, Grand Rapids. Envelopes for memorial contributions to Holy Cross Lutheran Church will be available at the funeral home.
