Marinus J. Veldkamp, age 82, of Wyoming, Michigan, passed away with his wife by his side on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at Trinity Health Grand Rapids Hospital.
The son of Herman & Dena Veldkamp, he was born on July 4, 1941 in Grand Rapids, MI. After graduating from Rogers High School in Wyoming, he decided to enlist and serve his country. A veteran of the United States Army, Marinus served honorably during the Vietnam War era and attained the rank of Corporal under the United States Army Corps of Engineers. On May 6, 1983 he married the love of his life, Sandra A. Veldkamp.
Marinus dedicated himself to his children and his family. He enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers play baseball and fishing. During his professional career, Marinus worked diligently on the Diesel Injection line for years. He was also a member of the Woodward Baptist Church in Byron Center, MI.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Herman Veldkamp Jr.
Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Sandra A. Veldkamp; their sons, Mark (Julie) Veldkamp and David Veldkamp; his grandson's, Landon and Greyson Veldkamp; his granddaughter, Elena Veldkamp; a brother-in-law, Richard Hooker; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service for Marinus will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024 at Woodward Baptist Church. (2160 76th St SW, Byron Center, MI 49315) Visitation with the family starts at 9:45 AM. A service with military honors led by Pastor Lance will follow at 11:00 AM. The family would like to invite their guests to join them for a luncheon held at the church following the conclusion of the service.
