Marilyn J. Schuitema (Kling, Vanderbei), age 94, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025, in Big Rapids, Michigan.
Born on August 2, 1930, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Marilyn built a life defined by professional excellence and personal vitality. She earned her credentials as an accountant and went on to become the co-owner and chief financial officer of Monroe, Inc., where her leadership and financial acumen were instrumental to the company's success. She was also a member of LaGrave Christian Reformed Church.
Marilyn embraced an active lifestyle throughout her life. She and her husband Howard were longtime members of Cascade Country Club. An avid snow skier, she served on the National Ski Patrol and enjoyed boating, water skiing, tennis, and golf. Her love for animals was evident in the many pets she cared for over the years.
She is lovingly remembered by her children Beth (Bryan) Ridenour, Robert (Kris) Vanderbei, Mike (Karen) Schuitema, Tim (Deb) Schuitema, and Dan (Deb) Schuitema; grandchildren Greg, Marcy, Diana, Rick, Mike, Kari, Matt, and Sara; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Howard Schuitema; her sister Velma Maatman; and her twin brother Fred Kling.
A Celebration of Life will be held in August. Details will be shared once finalized.
Marilyn's legacy is one of strength, grace, and vitality. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her.
