Marilyn M. Malinowski, age 89, formerly of Oakland Township, passed away peacefully in Grand Rapids on August 23, 2016.
Born in Wyandotte on April 18, 1927, she attended Michigan State University and the Detroit College of Business. She worked for several years as an executive secretary at J Walter Thompson Advertising Agency in Detroit until her marriage to Witold Malinowski on December 5, 1952. In 1974, she was elected Oakland Township Treasurer, a position she retained until her retirement in 1986. Marilyn was active in several community organizations, including the Community Foundation of Greater Rochester, the Rochester Garden Club, and the Adult Learning Institute of Oakland Community College. An avid traveler, she and Wit travelled to Europe several times, visiting England, Scotland, France, Germany, Poland, China, and Africa. In 2004, Marilyn moved to Fox Run Village in Novi, and to Grand Rapids in 2013.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Witold Malinowski; and sister, Sylvia (Ellis) Fryer. Surviving is her sister, Alice Bowden of Manhattan, Kansas; daughters, Lisa (Roger) Pekuri of Ely, Minnesota and Elaine (Larry) Fredendall of Clemson, South Carolina; son, Michael (Mary Swanson) Malinowski of Grand Rapids; her grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, September 1st at Sunrise of Cascade Senior Living Community in Grand Rapids.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Community Foundation of Greater Rochester, MI.
Honoring her wishes, cremation will take place. Arrangements are entrusted to Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Grand Rapids.
