Marilyn Jean (Bigelow) Koenig, age 77, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away peacefully with family by her side, after a brief illness on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. She was born February 21, 1947, in Kalamazoo, MI to the late Raymond E. and Helen Jean (Ferguson) Bigelow. Marilyn graduated from Mattawan High School with the class of 1965 and attended Western Michigan University. She married the love of her life, Jerald W. Koenig on August 13, 1966, in Portage, Michigan at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. She was an active member of the Peace Lutheran Church of Otsego since 1972. Together Marilyn and Jerry had three sons and celebrated 57 years of marriage before Jerry passed away on December 7, 2023. Marilyn worked as an administrative assistant for the Kalamazoo Public School System for 25 years and was co-owner of Alamo Greenhouse for 18 years. Marilyn enjoyed gardening and traveling and most of all loved spending time with family and friends. After retirement Marilyn and Jerry would spend winters at Lake San Marino in Naples, Florida where she especially loved going to the beaches, dancing, playing Mahjong, and spending time with friends from all over the country and Canada. Marilyn is survived by her three sons, David (Melissa) Koenig, Otsego, MI, Brian (Tamara) Koenig, Hudsonville, MI, and Mark (Jessica) Koenig, Otsego, MI; six grandchildren, Kara, Kyle, Chad, Caden, Peyton, and Caleb; and brother, Raymond D. (Patricia) Bigelow, Milwaukee, WI. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerald; her parents, Ray and Helen; and sister, Lois Ann Bigelow. Friends are invited to join the family for visitation on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 10:00 am at Peace Lutheran Church, 805 S Wilmott, Otsego, MI. A Christian funeral service will follow the visitation at 11:00 am. Interment will be held privately at the Alamo Center Cemetery.
